Westbury Community Garden – Website Redesign🔗


Project Goal / Challenge
The Westbury Community Garden’s website was outdated and difficult to navigate, making it challenging for community members to find information on events, volunteer opportunities, and resources. The goal was to modernize the site to improve usability, visual consistency, and engagement for both members and the broader Houston community.
My Role & Process
- Conducted a heuristic review of the existing site to identify usability pain points.
- Iteratively designed UI components emphasizing clarity, accessibility, and thematic consistency.
- Integrated interactive elements and responsive design to ensure usability across devices.
- Applied user feedback from community members to refine design and content layout.
Design Decisions / Solutions
- Navigation: Simplified menus and grouped related content to reduce cognitive load, priortizing critical information on home page.
- Visual Consistency: Harmonized typography, color scheme, and imagery to reinforce the garden’s branding.
- Accessibility: Ensured high contrast, descriptive alt text, and device-responsive design to maximize reach.
Impact / Results
- Over 70 community members now have easy access to event schedules, resources, and volunteering opportunities.
- Increased public engagement through a more intuitive and inviting interface.
- Community feedback highlighted the site’s clarity, friendliness, and modern look, making it a stronger tool for outreach and education.
